Cleon M. Gens, age 69, was called home to Heaven on April 22, 2024. She passed peacefully in the
comfort of her home with her loving husband by her side after a short battle with cancer. Cleon was
preceded in death by her mother Violet Schneider, step-dad Fred Schneider, sister Joan Aaker, and her
niece Catherine Bollo. She is survived by her husband, Theodore Gens Jr.; her daughter, Siobhan (Paul)
Albrecht; her stepson John (Crista) Schmidt; her grandson, Nathaniel Wilson; granddaughter, Ashley
Albrecht; sisters, Violet (Steve) Bollo and Deborah Mayhew; and many nieces and nephews and their
families.
On February 14, 1994, she married Theodore Gens Jr., her beloved husband and best friend for 34 years.
Cleon was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family deeply. She was full of personality, love,
laughter, and faith. She had profound respect for our military, police, firefighters, and justice system
from working for both the McHenry County Courthouse as a secretary to the judges and then as an
Administrative Assistant to the police detectives of the Crystal Lake Police Department. She also worked
as a police dispatcher for a couple of other police departments when she was younger.
Outside of spending time with her husband and family, Cleon loved to read, she loved to listen to music,
and she loved to play her piano and her violin. She also had a tremendous love for dogs. She was very
fond of the West Highland Terrier breed, having several over the years. Her most recent beloved
Westie, McDuff, passed in 2022.
Thank you to the Transitions Care Hospice team for their compassionate care of Cleon and the support
that they provided to her husband and family.
The family plans to hold a celebration of life that will be announced later.
